A Night Vision Fundamentals Course
Course Description, Background and Goals
In the night vision world, it’s entirely possible to have owned (and used) night vision capabilities for years without having a solid foundation in its fundamental use. We see this all the time, for a multitude of reasons – getting range time in the dark is hard, and might only be available a few times a year to the average user (or less). And even then, without the guidance and experience of experts, what should you even be doing with your NVGs to get more comfortable and capable when you do get on the range without wasting those precious hours?
Nocturnality gets mistaken for a training company at every event we sponsor, because at the core our team is made up of competitors in night vision related shooting and tactical sports. Sure, our goal is to provide the best night vision solutions, but it’s also about making capable night vision users.
The goals with NV Human Performance are as follows:
- Remove the limiting factors in your ability to gain experience in night vision on your own by demonstrating to you effective tools, gear set up, and techniques for executing the foundations of performance – movement, visual processing, target acquisition, and ability to adapt to changes.
- Provide basic fundamental skill building exercises and explain how they tie into your human performance when using night vision – for shooting rifles, pistols, and physical movement and navigation of your surroundings.
- Pass along the practical knowledge needed to understand how to solve common problems in your field while using night vision, whether in competitive shooting or law enforcement
Who This Course is For and FAQs
This course is for night vision users who seek formal instruction on fundamentals and basics up to intermediate concepts and techniques. It is intended primarily for those that have their own equipment but have relatively limited use with it beyond their own individual recreational uses (whether live fire or not).
If you’re worried this course might be a little too introductory for you, don’t. We likely will cover and demonstrate some things that will benefit you at the fundamental level. We’ll also work up to some challening, safe, skill building techniques to practice on your own and improve your NV shooting skills.
What if I don’t have NVGs of my own, but I want to come gain experience so I know what to do/purchase in the future?
If you can provide prior firearms course training completion certificates, we have rental equipment you can utilize. We’re not about gatekeeping, but we also firmly believe that you need to crawl before you can walk, and walk before you can run. Given the safety implications of this type of course taking place in the dark, we want to stress that a basic level of proficiency in performance shooting is needed to attend.
Key Information
Instructors
This course is taught by Team Nocturnality. In any given year, our team utilizes night vision technology more than 1,200 hours combined spanning nationwide competitive shooting events, in-house hosted competitions, outreach events, scientific testing, test and evaluation of night vision and thermal products, and more.
Our team offers a diverse professional background which spans military, law enforcement, competitive shooting, and the broader firearms industry. But really, the reason you should consider this course doesn’t have anything to do with our team’s historical experiences or current professional roles in tactical applications. You should consider this course because we prioritize human performance with night vision in competitive settings as a company culture, and spend week in and week out utilizing these technologies in many different forms and with many objectives.
Ultimately, we do this to better understand the needs of our industry and customers, but also recognize that creating skilled end users also increases our addressable market.
